saving a bird, and the micalun & devitan

today was quite wild, i woke up to my mom giving me a bird wrapped in a sweater. she found a blue budgie on the sidewalk and it looked pretty weak so she took it in and gave it some food and water and kept it in our cat carrier. i ended up finding a post in a facebook lost and found pets page and we got in contact with the owner, thankfully! she came to pick it up and i was so happy for her, though she is still missing another bird :( best of luck.. the bird was missing for 3 days now, so i'm glad we got to rescue at least one of them! </3

micalun & devitan

i've been playing with quite an old v-pet lately called the micalun & devitan by bandai. it came out in 1997 and it's a fortune telling device, the pet aspect is very minimal. it has some precursor designs for the tamagotchi angels, but also some ADORABLE sprites!! the concept is that it contains both angel & devil characters that you collect via a slot game. certain characters give you specific fortunes, like your lucky color or best time to get married (lol!). the two main characters tend to fight though, so you need to break up their fights or you collect bandage counters. from experience i can loose a character after one fight (no bandages) so idk exactly how it works, but you can remove your counters and regain your characters by replaying the slots.

you can learn more about them here, but there isn't much info out there about them. the best guide by far is this one! i've been taking notes of the gameplay and used google lens to translate the original japanese manual. there is quite a few details missing from the guide, so here's what i've noticed so far.

pausing the game

it is been said that the device will unpause itself "randomly", but the manual does state that this feature (pressing A+D) only puts the device to "sleep" for 8-9 hours or so. keep that in mind! ^.^

character fortunes

out of all the characters you collect, only some of them tell fortunes, and the characters that tell fortunes are not based on your personal details (like the guide mentions), but rather a predetermined roster. I used google lens to translate this, but here's the list of characters:

i plan to make a page about this with translations and ripped sprites, eventually haha. it does take me quite some time to collect all the characters, the slot game is veeeerrrryyy grindy. :') the worst is when i loose characters, so i pause liberally. ugh!! so far i have 4 angels + 9 devils. devil # 3 and 7 tell your lucky and unlucky color for that day, and i THINK i need to get to angel #8 for a special angel fortune, lmao. i eventually want to record the japanese text too, because even if i can't read it i can archive them for someone else to translate. i've tried myself and no luck! :') can't wait to collect all the characters, rip the sprites and then put this bby away, lmao!

to wrap it up: took a walk, now i'm eepy

i still got a walk in today, for about 20 minutes. i took my hello kitty pedometer & tamagotchi uni to help me find 1.an easy route that's about 20 minutes and 2. figure out how many steps i can feasibly do within that time. and the answer was, about 2,300 steps! my proxy order from japan is finally on the way, and in there i will have the v1 & v2 teku teku angels :EYES: :EYES: :EYES: and i think realistically i will just set my daily walking goal to 2,000 steps. im a tired girl! i've been downing loads of coffee but i'm still tired. i'm crashing, and trying to finish my commissions. help!

till next time!
